San Juan Quiet Cove
Ethereal Evening Light
Forest Light Dance
I feel so fortunate to be able to pursue my passion. Though I work in the mediums of oil, watercolor, dry pigment (soft) pastel and printmaking, for Art in the Pearl I will be presenting my pastels.
Employing a contemporary impressionist style, with a fascination for rich and radiant color, I approach each painting as a puzzle, allowing the piece to develop in color and mood as the painting unfolds on the two dimensional surface. Creating layers of texture and depth of place, I strive to engage the viewer, drawing them into a world of tranquil beauty.
My paintings come from places traveled as well as near my home on Whidbey Island. Color and light are what attracts me to particular subjects and dry pigment pastel is such a beautiful medium to convey these elements of the landscape. The professional pastels of today (many handmade) are pure dry pigment with very little binder. With no oil, fillers or wax the pastels have vibrancy, luminously and light refraction qualities not found in other mediums.
